What is National Children’s Day 2024?
Ever since it was established by the UN General Assembly in 1954, National Children’s Day UK (NCDUK) has had a massively positive impact on the wellbeing of children. In it’s own words, NCDUK is:
“All about the importance of a healthy childhood, and how we need to protect the rights and freedoms of children and young people.“
With home being a place of safety and security for countless children, there are a few simple steps you can take to make it the best for your little ones.
Create an inspiring space
Home’s aren’t only where children sleep, they are also the environments in which they learn and grow.
As a result, making the most of your child’s play or study spaces will help put them on a great path mentally and intellectually. For this, look for inspiring colours which will help your child be calm and concentrate on their hobbies and all that homework. Blues, greens and yellow are all exceptional options for this. You can learn more in our Psychology Of Colour: Positive Colours blog.
While we touched on homework, reading is a skill that all children will in many ways depend upon as they grow up. Where possible try to curate a corner that’s specifically for your child to read in. Natural light is a key factor for this so consider light filtering voiles, neat wooden blinds or even curtains featuring your child’s favourite characters or past times!

Improve children’s sleep
It’s a well established truth that sleep is extremely important for a child’s development and health. According to the sleep foundation:
“In addition to having a direct effect on happiness, research shows that sleep impacts alertness and attention, cognitive performance, mood, resiliency, vocabulary acquisition, and learning and memory.”
How then can you make your child’s bedroom the best it can be for these essential development steps? Well, one of the first things to consider is external light. Light entering a bedroom can negatively affect the quality of sleep so reducing it to a minimum is vitally important. Layering a window with recess fit blinds and curtains is the best way to make the perfect sleep environment. Moreover, with Blinds Direct, you can add a blackout lining, for free, to any Roman blind or curtain.
If external light is a significant factor in your area, you can instead choose a free thermal lining which will keep your child snug and cosy which will also promote better sleep. If, however, you prefer roller blinds to Romans, you can find a wide array of roller blinds made from specialist blackout fabrics.
Everyone wants the very best for their children so why not spend National Children’s Day looking at additional ways in which you can put your little one on the best path? Take time to go outside, explore nature, read a book or make some good old fashioned potato paintings and enjoy National Children’s Day 2024!
