Trend focus: the British seaside

This summer, we’re embracing the staycation with British beach-inspired interiors. And if these seaside styles have really whet your appetite, why not take a trip to one the beautiful beaches that Britain has to offer? Here are some of our favourites…
The Yorkshire Coast
God’s Own Country boasts a number of sandy beaches, striking cliffs and charming fishing villages, perfect for a day trip or a more extended stay. Gather the family and head towards Whitby, Filey, Bridlington or Scarborough, where the kids are sure to have hours of fun and you’ll bag yourself some of the best fish and chips in the county. Or, for a quieter and more grown up seaside staycation, try Saltburn, Staithes or Runswick Bay. No matter your coastal preference, Yorkshire’s 45 mile rugged coastline makes for the perfect destination, with easy access by car and train.
Whitstable
Considered by many as the best seaside town in Kent, Whitstable has increased in popularity over recent years, offering fresh sea air, a rich history and a bohemian charm that city dwellers love. There are several beaches to choose from, including the popular pebbled Tankerton and the charming Whitstable West Beach. Escape the hustle and bustle and head to this family-friendly destination, where you’ll discover delicious seafood, breath-taking sunsets and the cute, colourful beach huts that are so synonymous with the British seaside.
Salcombe
Or you could head to Salcombe, Devonshire’s iconic seaside town that’s well known for its charming harbour town, turquoise waters and pristine beaches. Tucked away on Devon’s southern coastline, Salcombe remains one of the best-loved holiday destinations in the UK. Ideal for the whole family, choose from a jaunt into the town followed by a stroll along the beach, or a jam-packed day of water sports, sandcastle building and plenty of fish and chips.
Pembrokeshire
For those in Wales and the north west, the Pembrokeshire coast is a winning choice. With its acres of sandy bays and rocky coves, these beautiful beaches – all protected by their National Park status – have some of the cleanest, bluest water in the UK. Why not visit Barafundle Bay for a peaceful forest walk that leads to impressive panoramic sea views, pop to Tenby for some nostalgic seaside charm, or head to the little Harbour Beach, which is great for those with small children?
Cornwall
Cornwall boasts over 300 beaches, which means there’s something for every holidaymaker! Whether you’re looking for a family-friendly stretch of white sand, a peaceful spot for a dog walk, a place to learn how to surf, or somewhere to go sailing, Cornwall’s beaches won’t disappoint. Some of the top seaside towns include Falmouth, Looe, St Ives and Padstow, all of which feature crystal clear waters and British seaside charm.
Margate
For a more retro seaside experience, why not head to Margate? This classic beach destination has undergone a real revival over the last few years, and now has plenty to offer every holidaymaker, from its long sandy beach and vintage amusement park, to its quirky shops and art galleries. Explore its sandy bays before heading to the pier for a drink and expansive views of the south east coast.
Moray
Finally, for those who are lucky enough to live in Scotland or are taking a trip up north, be sure to visit the Moray Firth. With a number of beautiful beaches, Moray is one of Scotland’s finest. Lining the country’s north east coast, Moray’s offers unique experiences like sailing and dolphin spotting, along with plenty of beautiful coastal trails and sandy bays for sunbathing and paddling. Much of the firth is unaffected by tourism so you can enjoy a more peaceful seaside break, too.
