Sunset hues are an easy and exciting way to add a warming yet sophisticated finish to any home. In today’s blog, we’ll be providing you with all the information you’ll need to capture the magic of sunsets, one of the most beautiful moments of any day! Get ready for chic cosiness in your home…

What are sunset hues?

Sunset hues capture the incredible beauty of midsummer sunsets. These warming colours fondly remind us of relaxing holidays, lazy summer evenings and good company. As a result, these colours are exceptional options for adding into interior design! As you might expect, many of these shades are warmer colours on the spectrum, but to make the most of this excellent theme, be sure to find tones that are on the muted end of the spectrum. These are the best sunset hues in our book.

Outgoing orange

Orange is such an amazing colour. Vibrant, bold, and energising, this excellent colour is instrumental in a sunset hue space. Luckily, as we see the orange glow surrounding the setting sun, we can use plenty of orange shades in today’s theme.

The closest areas around the setting sun are naturally the brightest shades of orange, but the light at the extremity is a deeper, moodier shade. This diversity in colour allows for stylish decorators to use different tones of orange, especially when dotted around the room.

For best effects, we suggest adding orange cushions, orange lamp shades, or featuring orange in a minor role in a patterned Roman blind or cushion.

Terrific terracotta

Synonymous with countless Mediterranean states, terracotta is a superb choice for a sunset hue home. While the colour itself of course fits within the sunset colour palette, it also roots people in the idea of being overseas in warmer climes.

Shades of terracotta range from rich saturated hues to softer pastel tones, and from stronger oranges to reddish browns. The versatility of this sublime colour can make it feel overwhelming when it comes to finding the perfect tone to decorate with; however, by ordering samples, you can find the ideal shade for you!

Ponder over pinks

Thus far, the shades we’ve looked at in this blog have leant towards the yellow edge, but what if we look red-wards? Pink is the perfect addition for sunset hues for several reasons.

Firstly, pink is a joyful colour that enriches any space in a warming yet energising way. Muted shades of pink are often found in the most picturesque sunsets and as a result, this is where we should look for inspiration for today’s trend.

Dusky pinks used as a spot colour will keep your space feeling on trend while adding depth to the space. If you want to curate a more blended feel between pinks and oranges, use peachy pinks for a delicate transition between the two.

Youthful yellow

The colour most closely associated with the sun is yellow. Muted mustards and dusky lemon shades are fantastic options, especially contrasting with deeper shades of terracotta or orange.

On the lighter side of the colour palette, mixing yellow with cream tones is sublime. A pale neutral shade such as jasmine or ivory work wonderfully when mixed with warmer yellow tones such as gold, honey, or mustard.

Yellow is such a versatile colour that contrast can be as subtle or standout as you wish! Because yellow is naturally lighter than the previous shades, remember to keep them muted for the best finish.

Don’t forget the night sky

The colours we’ve looked at thus far have related mostly to those associated with the sun itself, but that doesn’t mean you have to ignore the wider evening sky. If you don’t want your sunset hues to absolutely dominate the room you’re decorating, take some additional inspiration from the wider night sky.

Inky blues and purples are a perfect backdrop for the broader sunset hues. You can learn all about the power of dark blue in interior design in our Dark Blue blog. For another layer of nighttime detail, use warm shades of grey that capture the mystery of the clouds.

Adding sublime sunset hues to your home’s aesthetic couldn’t be easier. By following these easy steps, you’ll capture the spirit of the most beautiful time of the day and be able to enjoy it all day, every day!
