Pantone has made its long-awaited announcement of its colour for 2020. Classic Blue, a ‘timeless and enduring’ shade of blue, has been selected to highlight the current need for stability and dependability as we cross into a brand new decade.
19-4052 Classic Blue instils a calm confidence and connectivity. Elegant and simple, this hue reminds us of nature’s own dusky skies and deep seas, whilst also maintaining a sense of technology and modernity.
About Classic Blue
Classic Blue is peaceful, wise and sincere. It is a colour that helps us to concentrate, as well as restoring balance in both our minds and our environments.
Pantone describes the shade as a universal favourite that is non-aggressive and easily relatable. It offers a sense of protection and honesty, something that we crave in a time of technological advances and political unrest.
“It is a complementary colour and will sit well within many palettes,” explains our pattern designer, Eilidh Ferguson. “Classic Blue will comfortably span across both fashion and interiors, offering calm and hope in 2020.”
Pantone’s Color of the Year
Pantone has selected a colour of the year for over 20 years. This shade has gone on to influence decisions and developments across a number of industries, from fashion and interior design, to graphics, marketing and architecture.
In order to select the appropriate colour for the next 12 months, Pantone’s colour experts track down colour influences across the globe, considering the music, film and entertainment industries, as well as travel, technology and sport. After deep exploration they will arrive at a shade that is both reflective of, and inspiring for, the year that lies ahead.
“Classic Blue encourages us to look beyond the obvious to expand our thinking; challenging us to think more deeply, increase our perspective and open the flow of communication,” explains Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of Pantone.
