In today’s blog, we’ll be taking a stroll down golden sands to show how you can capture the majesty of the British coastline in your home!
Winter coastal colours
While the same place geographically, a coastline in winter is a very different environment to the summer.
Here, the colours are far more muted yet remain equally beautiful. Dark grey rocks covered in green moss looking out upon a tumultuous sea of dark blue is something we can all find inspiration from.
For a more wintery coastal finish in your home, look to warming shades of slate grey, inky green blues and similar shades of soft neutrals that capture the beauty of the sand. For accent colours, you can still use yellows and pinks but opt for more muted tones to capture the more wintery feeling. While it captures the essence of a beautiful winter, these colours won’t make your home feel cold and inviting, they will make it into a stylish haven that can be enjoyed year round.

Coastal colour palettes
The first thing to consider when finding inspiration from the British coastline is the abundance of beautiful colours available to you. While we don’t have the crystal blue waters or bright white sands of more exotic locations, there are still some beautiful colours which can enrich any home.
The sea, sand, vegetation and of course the man-made structures synonymous with the coast are all valuable sources when it comes to finding colours with which to decorate your home. That said, these colours can be season specific, so let explore the summer coastal colours, and winter colours in turn!
Summer coastal colours
The summer months are when our beautiful coastal resorts really spring to life. This is the time of brilliant sunshine (sometimes!) and all the colours explode in their beauty.
For more summer inspired interior design, we need to firstly look at the lighter colours. For sea themed colours, a mixture of bright blues, teals and seafoam greens are the perfect starting points. As the sea is the focal point of any coastal chic vista, featuring these colours in larger pieces of furniture is a must. Curtains, sofas and large blinds are all fantastic examples of where to feature these colours.
Next is the sand. Beaches vary in colour and texture but you can’t go wrong with warm, pale neutral colours. To reflect the busy nature of a summer beach, consider adding pops of other colours and patterns associated with local holidays. The bright yellows and greens of traditional beach huts and the vibrant tones of sticks of rock and other sweet goodies can be captured in the smaller accessories of your home such as lamp shades, cushions and throws.
