Pantone’s colour of the year
Eagle eyed readers will have noticed that we explored Pantone’s colour of the year 2023 at the start of December. However, what are the best ways to use PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta, and which colours will go well with it?
Viva Magenta is one of those magical tones that borders two colours and, as a result, can be used in a range of different ways. For more modern homes, you can pair Viva Magenta with deeper shades of plum purple, and even soft but bright shades of green, orange or yellow.
If your home is more traditionally decorated, you can also make great use of Viva Magenta. Paired with neutral and earthy tones, off whites or even greys, Pantone’s colour of the year will add an exciting pop of energy to any space. Adding Viva Magenta to a room via a patterned accessory or window dressing is easy to do, and to help you find the perfect addition to your home we’ve even curated our own Viva Magenta collection.
Valspar’s colours of the year
Paint and coatings specialist Valspar has unveiled 12 striking tones for its 2023 colours of the year. From Cozy White to the warm peach of Desert Carnation via cool Green Trellis to Flora, each tone is carefully paired and associated with different emotional states. Whether you’re looking for a space that’s energising, calming or joyful, there will be a colour you can enjoy!
Many of these colours can be painted on the walls, but they are equally beautiful when used throughout a room, especially in window furnishings and soft accessories. For example, if you have pale blue walls, hues similar to Everglade Deck will make perfect accent colours, especially as blue curtains, blue Roman blinds or even blue cushions.
Furthermore, the warmer shades of the Valspar 2023 colours of the year are equally versatile. Desert Carnation, Holmes Cream and the reddish hint in Southern Road will all work beautifully with shades of green, grey-blue and soft off whites.
Dulux colour of the year
Dulux has selected Wild Wonder as its colour of the year for 2023. In a world where warm, earthy shades are growing in popularity, Wild Wonder is perfect for a selection of popular interior design trends. Dulux describes Wild Wonder as:
”Wild Wonder™ is a light and earthy shade with a glowing tone that connects us with the natural world. It brings positivity and energy to our living and working spaces, and is a colour that works with a host of other shades – each of our four new palettes reflects the different ways that nature teaches and nurtures us”
Wild Wonder can be paired with a range of colourways from cool, collected shades through to warmer, more energetic tones. Whether you enjoy lilac, steel, mustard or deep terracotta, Wild Wonder will act as either the perfect foundation, or contrast.
Alizarin by Graham & Brown
Cosy, inviting and ever so stylish, Alizarin is Graham & Brown’s colour of the year for 2023. This auburn shade of red has a richness to it that will make any space feel instantly welcoming and comfortable.
Alizarin is also a natural tone that captures the magic of both terracotta and russet red. This connection to nature makes it a perfect autumnal colour which will also look striking during the other seasons of the year. To make the best use of this colour, look to other natural shades to enhance it and make it pop.
Great examples will include soft stone grey, lighter shades of cream and for contrast, limited use of leafy greens. In our 2023 interior design predictions blog, we covered comfortable cocooning and many of this trend’s elements will work well with Alizarin! Just picture plenty of cushions, thick thermal lined curtains and the occasional potted plant to relax with this year.
It seems 2023 is going to be an exciting year for colour and for those who love to experiment! In the coming days, we’ll be unveiling our very own colour of the year, what do you think it might be? Let us know your guesses via Twitter, Facebook and Instagram!
