Schools have reopened, the rain is here and many of us are preparing our homes for the coming winter. With September coming to a close, we thought we’d have a close look at some of the remarkable images we’ve been tagged in on Instagram to see how our talented customers are readying their homes for the cold. Keen to find some excellent interior inspiration? Read on…

Our favourite social posts from September

For months, if not years, we’ve extolled the virtues of high quality curtains. They’re a stylish addition to any space, especially since you can find them in a diverse selection of colours, patterns and fabrics, and this month, we’ll be taking a close look at how three of talented customers have used them to maximise their home decor!

Stripy curtains for doors

This month’s first example of creative content is a striking doorway by @fromlondontomanchester. When thinking about curtains, we often place them against windows in our mind’s eye, but windows aren’t the only places where you can enjoy the benefits of these remarkable products.

@fromlondontomanchester has fitted a classically beautiful, blue and white striped curtain at her front door to dramatic effect. This well considered decision is great for two reasons. Firstly, the curtains perfectly frame the door, enriching the overall homely aesthetic of the space. They also partner beautifully with many of the accessories such as the vase on the sideboard, while contrasting pleasantly with the creamy walls and rich wooden panelling.

Secondly, the curtains have a practical benefit, namely improved thermal efficiency and as a result, a warmer home. As @fromlondontomanchester says, “old houses are pretty but warm they are not”, and she’s right. By adding a premium quality curtain to your doors you can reduce heat loss via the gaps around it thus saving money on expensive energy bills!

How to layer curtains and voiles

Our second post is of a remarkably cosy room by the talented @homebyvaida. Featuring warm white walls, a beautiful light wooden floor and plenty of luxurious cream accessories, this is a very comfortable space.

Amidst the beautiful colours and soft shapes of the accessories is a rich, elegant neutral curtain set against the window. While the colour and shape of the curtain added to the overall cosy emotions of the space, it’s not alone.

Sharing the same window is a chic, sophisticated white voile. This is a flawless example of how to layer a window. By fitting a heavier duty curtain, and a light filtering voile to her window, @homebyvaida can enjoy the twin benefits of a full bodied window that oozes a sense of quality and comfort, and the freedom to choose between blocking out the light or letting it in while remaining private. It’s a win win! You can learn more about the aesthetic and functional benefits of voiles in our Know The Difference: Voile Or Net Curtains blog.

Curtains and blinds for children

Last but not least is this remarkable child’s bedroom by the supremely talented @elliegooder. The first thing to notice in this room is the remarkable use of colour. Rich oranges, soothing blue greys and pops of pink come together to manifest a space that’s ideal for a little one to grow in.

Colours and patterns are excellent additions to a child’s room as they help inspire, soothe and excite their growing minds. That said, the colours here are not overly bold, they remain homely and comforting which are ideal for a young child’s bedroom.

Completing the overall look of the space are the curtains and Roman blind at the window. While the white and pink stripes of the Roman blinds contrast with the blue and white floral pattern of the curtain, they do so in such a way that fills the room with character and personality. Moreover, by adding two weightier fabrics to the window, Ellie can make the space totally blackout. This is very important as quality sleep is of paramount importance for little children and their development. Beauty and utility combined, this is a great room.
