“Soft pastels and feminine florals bring a sense of the English country garden to your space.”

Floral prints, botanical flourishes and organic accents have a great impact on our interiors, and the recent resurgence of this trend has seen more and more homes adapt to the botanical way of life. Harking back to simpler times spent outdoors, surrounded by nature and all of its beauty, the botanical trend injects freshness and life into modern urban homes. These feminine touches also bring a sense of tranquility, creating a space that is relaxing and warm, no matter its function.

The Botanical Trend

Earlier this year we attended the Heimtextil International Trade Show 2017, where the biggest trend alert focused around botanical prints. It’s inspired us to embrace the beauty of the great outdoors, and select pieces that evoke a sense of nature; floral prints, birds, vines, lush shades of green, earthy textures. It is truly a breath of fresh air! This botanical bliss takes us away from the hustle and bustle of daily life and offers a moment of tranquility.

The hand-drawn look is particularly popular this season, offering an authentic, artistic reflection through textiles, wallpaper and decorations. These biological drawings include fruit, herbs, animals and insects. Meanwhile, the more delicate, watercolour paint-style botanical prints will bring a softness to the bedroom, creating a calm atmosphere. Alternatively, large-scale florals make a bold statement, perfect for jazzing up living rooms and hallways.

SS17’s botanical prints move towards a toned-down, earthy palette, where backgrounds are kept neutral or feature subtle script. However, there are some summery shades of leafy green, lemon yellow and raspberry in some pieces. Aesthetics range from the simple to the complex, with basic bamboo structures in tonal green contrasting a fully flourishing garden scene.

Get The Look

Botanical prints can be used in a number of ways, from statement walls and window dressings, to mantelpiece accents and artwork. The botanical trend works particularly well with soft furnishings. Flowers blossom and foliage winds its way across a range of textiles, stretching from simple prints to romantic embroidery. If you are looking to incorporate the trend through your window dressings, choose a vertical botanical print, the repeat adding height and depth with its vine-like structure.

There are multiple other ways to achieve the botanical look in your home. Why not try accessorising with small jars or bottles, and placing freshly cut wild flowers in? You could also use pressed leaves and petals in elegant glass frames, and hang in either a gallery wall or as a solo statement. Floral cushions will also brighten up plain bedlinen, helping to bring the outdoors inside in a subtle manner.
